South Kitsap Helpline

South Kitsap Helpline is a non-profit hunger-relief agency serving Port Orchard and surrounding Kitsap County areas. In early 2010, Helpline purchased the local Port Orchard Nursery which had closed after 49 years of business and finally acquired a permanent home for our agency made possible by a generous grant from the Birkenfeld Trust. Our food bank and offices are located here as is a small storefront on-site now called Oleah’s Plant and Produce Patch (a tribute to the original nursery owner Oleah Greseth). We use the three commercial greenhouses and the gardens on-site to grow healthy vegetables and herbs that are distributed to our food bank clients in their grocery baskets and we sell plants, flowers, herbs and surplus produce to the public from our storefront to help support our agency. We also regularly donate vegetable starts to our food bank clients for their own gardens and we donate starts to other community gardens that are helping to feed those in need throughout Kitsap county as well.
